The ChatGPT Platform Isn’t Ready For My Dad

My dad send a video message on WhatsApp to me about ChatGPT

The WhatsApp video was compelling about how the Google era is over, and this GPT is here to stay. How easy will it be for everyone to operate and get answers to compelling or trivial questions?

I never thought I would be pinged about new tech from my dad, who has no Instagram or Facebook account.

Now, this has to be something meaningful because my dad sent a video that explains AI technology taking over the world in a WhatsApp chat message.

So, I, too, was listening to all the talk about the GPT, but I was happily overlooking it. 2022, at year-end, in November and December, I must detox from technology.

However, my dad pushed me to engage in this new technology and instead explained to him how to use it.

Here are the steps I took first to understand what to do with ChatGPT

1. Ironically, I had to type ChatGPT into the Google search engine. The very engine is about the replace. I smerked in my head. I laughed loudly.

2. ChatGPT is a chatbot launched by OpenAI company in November 2022. It is built on OpenAI’s GPT-3 family of large language models and fine-tuned with supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.

Found the above text from our remarkably, almost reliable and dependable resource Uncle Wikipedia.

3. The top link in the Google search is OpenAI, as the site’s first opening lines explain that it is an AI research and deployment company. Their mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity.

4. On the top of the OpenAI page, I found the Introduction to ChatGPT research release link.

5. I clicked the Try button.

6. I landed on the ChatGPT page, which said, “ChatGPT is at capacity right now”.

7. I clicked on the “Get notified when we’re back.”

8. After several tries and clearing all cookies from my computer, I see the ChatGPT landing page.

9. The first thing I typed was, now I already know from all the gossip around, that ChatGPT gives you single answers than a whole list of links, unlike google.

List of questions I asked ChatGPT

Like an interviewer asks a candidate, “Why should we hire you?”.

1 ) Me: can my 70-year-old father use ChatGPT?

Answer from ChatGPT: Yes, your 70-year-old father can use ChatGPT. However, it is essential to note that ChatGPT is a text-based interface and may not be the most user-friendly option for individuals unfaneed to become morewith typing or using a computer. Additionally, ensuring that your father has the necessary hardware and internet connection to use ChatGPT.

2) Me: what are the advantages of ChatGPT?

Answer from ChatGPT: ChatGPT can be used for various natural language processing tasks, such as text generation, conversation generation, language translation, and text summarization. It is highly accurate and efficient, making it a valuable tool for developers and businesses. Additionally, ChatGPT can understand and respond to a wide range of human inputs, making it an effective tool for creating chatbots and other conversational interfaces. It can also be fine-tuned on a specific domain to provide more accurate results. UsingUsing ChatGPT can help improve your applications and services’ functionality and user experience.

  • High level of fluency and coherence in the generated text.
  • Capable of understanding context and generating relevant responses.
  • Can perform various language tasks, such as question answering and text summarization.
  • It can be fine-tuned to specific domains to improve performance.
  • It can be integrated into various applications, such as chatbots and automated writing assistants.
  • It can handle a large amount of data and is robust to misspellings and grammatical errors.

3) Me: “Is ChatGPT better than Google?’

Answer from ChatGPT: It is challenging to compare ChatGPT and Google as they are different types of systems. ChatGPT is a language generation model, while Google is a search engine. Google can quickly search a vast amount of information and provide relevant results, while ChatGPT can generate human-like text based on the input it receives. Both have their unique strengths and are used for different purposes.

4) Me: “Is ChatGPT similar to Siri?”

Answer from ChatGPT: ChatGPT and Siri are both language-based AI systems, but they have different capabilities and are used in different ways. Siri is a virtual assistant developed by Apple, primarily for use on iOS devices. It can perform a wide range of tasks, such as setting reminders, making phone calls, and sending texts. ChatGPT, on the other hand, is a language generation model that can generate human-like text based on a given prompt. It is not a virtual assistant and is mainly used for language-related tasks such as text generation, text completion, and language translation.

My father in his seventies is keen on utilizing Chat GPT. However, it is disheartening to note that the platform does not cater to individuals within his age bracket.

Here’s what I told my dad after a super exploration session

That’s all from my side on ChatGPT today; I currently don’t want to ask anymore and am apprehensive about depending on its answers.

As they are advocating, it’s a research beta version. ChatGPT mentions on its landing page that it can occasionally generate incorrect information.

So my words to my dad will be, “Have fun with it but don’t take it as a last word for any problem”. I am not being negative, but with every new tech comes responsibility.

When the internet was introduced to the world officially in 1983, I was not born then. My dad introduced it to me in the late 90s, and that’s what he told me then.

Have fun with it but don’t take it as a last word for any problem.”
