It’s a Google definition above. Even reading it makes you feel wow. So much to do mentally. No! That is not all true, and there are no superhumans. They, too, have to deal with meltdowns and downtimes.

  • Are you surfing data all the time? Is your smartphone in your hand when you’re not in front of your computer?
  • Do you ever notice that you’ve been staring at your screen for more than 30 minutes without taking a break?
  • Are you continuously checking qualitative and quantitative data?
  • Do you find it challenging to maintain focus on your tasks? Do you frequently need to be more focused and end up procrastinating by engaging in other activities?
  • Reading data drives you crazy — you’re looking at the contextual interviews and workshop data that aren’t working for you.
  • You’ve read so much on a topic that it’s not making sense.
  • You can’t read even one more data point
  • Your head is spinning
  • You have read or heard so many personas on the same thing that you no longer know your name.
  • Information overload!!!

Here are some helpful coping mechanisms

Managing Physical Space

If you observe any mess in your workspaces, it could be an indication to pause and reassess. Usually, it is because you need to do more work. Spend 10 minutes each day de-cluttering. Clear away all distractions.

Manage Your Attention

Work in focused bursts: use a timer for 60 min work, 20 min break. Get away from the project: to an area with no project vibes, like a cafe or garden. Use only a notepad & pen.

To manage a project effectively, doing more than creating a simple to-do list is crucial. It’s essential to break down the tasks into smaller and more manageable segments and then organize them into a daily and weekly schedule.

By doing this, you can ensure that the project is completed with maximum efficiency and timely delivery.

However, consider the concentration level, focus on each type of task and schedule accordingly.

Create Rituals and Habits

Incorporating rituals into your work routine can provide advantages. The mindmap presents several excellent suggestions for establishing habits, such as organizing your workspace and practising healthy behaviours like maintaining proper sleep and exercise.

Moreover, you can also meditate, read, plan your day, stretch, refocus, and review your to-do list for further improvement.

Use Paper for ideation.

I’ve found it helpful to switch back to using Paper and pencil to improve my productivity and reduce content overload.

I create mind maps or use visualization techniques to reflect on my week or plan my day. This helps me with pre-writing and acts as a reflection exercise.

That’s why I’ve explored visual facilitation and thinking techniques to manage the overwhelming content I encounter.

Reflect & Review

In order to make your daily reflection sessions more effective, you can try practicing your visual recording skills by creating a “Most Important Things for Today List”.

Spend ten minutes each day in creating a visual representation of your to-do list, using drawings or symbols to represent your tasks.

Once you have created this list, take a few moments to reflect on your accomplishments for the day, and identify areas where you can improve.

This reflection time can also be used to plan for tomorrow by thinking about what tasks must be carried out and how to prioritise them for maximum productivity. By making reflection a daily habit, you can increase your self-awareness and improve your overall performance.

Just take a break.

When it comes to giving attention, it’s important to find a balance that works for you. While being too rigid in your focus can cause you to miss out on the benefits of uncertainty, being too loose can make it difficult to learn or build strong relationships.

Uncertainty can be a powerful force that helps us grow and learn new things. It can be the catalyst for discovering new perspectives and ideas. However, it’s important to strike a balance between embracing uncertainty and being too attached to the unknown.
