My Direction In Life

My Direction In Life

My name in Hindi (spoken in India) means direction.

My Reflections On The Past, Present, and Future.

Hello, my name is Disha!

Living with my family in a small market town in Buckinghamshire, South East England, inspires and fills my days. Designing and creating have always brought me joy and fulfilment.

There’s something magical about turning your ideas into a tangible solution. Working on a new project feels like bringing a piece of myself into the world.

Past

Five years ago, my family and I boldly relocated from Asia to England, seeking new adventures and opportunities to broaden our horizons.

While we undoubtedly miss our home, we are grateful for the chance to immerse ourselves in diverse cultures and ways of life.

Reflecting on my past, I cherish the memories of my childhood, college and early professional years spent in the vibrant capital city of Delhi, India.

The hustle and bustle, the rich history, and the cultural tapestry of Delhi have left an indelible mark on my identity. Later, as life unfolded, I found myself in the southern city of Bengaluru, where I embraced new experiences and immersed myself in a different language and culture.

This geographical shift added new dimensions to my personal life and contributed significantly to my professional growth.

Travelling extensively across India has been a journey of self-discovery, exposing me to the myriad of traditions, languages, and lifestyles that coexist within this diverse country.

Each chapter of my life, whether in Delhi or Bengaluru, has shaped the person I am today. The challenges and triumphs encountered during this journey have instilled a sense of resilience, adaptability, and an appreciation for the beauty of embracing change.

Present

As I continue to build my life in this small market town in Buckinghamshire, I eagerly anticipate new adventures and growth. The city’s quaint charm, combined with England’s cultural richness, provides a unique backdrop for my ongoing journey of self-discovery.

Each day unfolds as an opportunity to learn, adapt, and appreciate the beauty that arises from the amalgamation of diverse experiences.

Living in England, with its distinct blend of tradition and modernity, further enriches my perspective and fuels my enthusiasm for exploring the vast tapestry of the world around me.

I am excited about the future, knowing that every experience, whether big or small, contributes to the intricate mosaic of my life story.

Journey as a designer

As a designer, I have developed a diverse skillset that seamlessly combines my professional expertise with my personal interests. This fusion not only defines my approach to design but also shapes the lens through which I perceive and interact with the world around me.

Professional Expertise

My design journey spans various realms, from serving as a communications designer to delving into the intricacies of user experience (UX) and navigating product design challenges.

This diverse skill set has equipped me to navigate projects in the education, healthcare, and automotive sectors, allowing me to contribute effectively to a broad spectrum of industries.

Values That Drive My Work

At the core of my professional philosophy lies an innate curiosity that fuels my inquisitive nature. This curiosity is not confined to design aesthetics but extends to understanding the profound impact of design choices on consumer behaviour.

My work reflects meticulous attention to detail, as I constantly seek to balance simplicity and clarity in every project.

Collaboration is the cornerstone of my work ethic, where honesty and transparency are guiding principles. I believe in fostering a work environment free from ego, where ideas flourish through collective efforts.

A structured approach complements this collaborative spirit, as I adhere to Objectives and Key Results (OKR) to ensure that each project is aligned with measurable outcomes.

My personal interests

Outside of my professional life, my personal interests are integral to defining who I am. Having a background in sports, specifically as a volleyball player at the zone level, has ingrained in me essential values such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience.

Laughter is my remedy for life’s challenges. I take solace in intelligent comedy, drawing inspiration from comedians like Trevor Noah, Hasan Minhaj, and Mallika Dua for their astute observations and wit. Literature, particularly graphic novels by artists like Sarnath Banerjee and Orijit Sen, serves as a consistent well of inspiration.

Currently immersed in “Maus — A Survivor’s Tale,” I continue to explore narratives that convey profound human experiences.

My passion for pottery and clay art provides a channel for artistic expression, and my journey spans diverse experiences. Venturing into mountaineering, marked by achieving a Level One Certification, reflects my embrace of adventure and the outdoors.

I actively engage in blogging about cooking, baking, and creative arts. I share my culinary adventures and insights, building a community of enthusiasts.

As an avid origami enthusiast, I conduct modular origami classes, delving into the precise art of paper folding.

My commitment to gardening, a lifelong pursuit, offers a therapeutic connection to nature. This kaleidoscope of interests enriches my personal life and infuses my role as a designer with a unique blend of creativity, discipline, and a spirit of adventure.

Future

I am a lifelong learner who seeks to discover and implement new knowledge. I have a keen eye for simple and thoughtful designs for products and services that promote a clutter-free lifestyle.

Design and technology are the most sustainable solutions for future-oriented thinking. So, let’s keep creating, innovating, and pushing the boundaries together!
